管理南极事务的三大国际组织
南极条约协商国、南极研究科学委员会和国家南极局局长理事会是目前管理南极事务的三大主要国际组织，中国是这三个组织的成员国。
南极条约协商国（简称ＡＴＣＭ）是国际政府间管理南极政治事务的组织。２０世纪以来，领土主权曾一度成为南极的焦点问题，英国、澳大利亚、新西兰、法国、智利、阿根廷、挪威先后都对南极提出了领土主权的要求。为此，在１９５７年至１９５８年国际地球物理年南极考察活动结束后，美国邀请苏联、日本、比利时、南非以及上述有领土要求国家、一共１２个国家的代表，在华盛顿签署了冻结一切领土主张及资源开发的《南极条约》，中国于１９８３年加入《南极条约》。
南极研究科学委员会（简称ＳＣＡＲ）是管理南极科学事务的民间科学团体。南极研究科学委员会是国际科学联合会理事会（ＩＣＳＵ）属下的一个多学科科学委员会。它是国际南极科学的最高学术权威机构，负责国际南极研究计划的制定、启动、推进和协调。通过每两年一次的大会和组织一系列的学术研讨会，定期发布国际南极研究的最新发现，并提出南极科学研究新的优先领域，为其成员国指明研究方向。
国家南极局局长理事会（以下简称ＣＯＭＮＡＰ）是各国主管南极事务的部门负责人的组织。成立于１９８８年，每年召开一次会议，主要致力于提供一个论坛，使各成员国有关南极的问题能及时、有效、和谐地加以讨论并得到解决。本届会议的主要议题有：在南极提供医疗保障、空中保障、先进的能源资源、在南极水域的航行、垃圾处理技术等。
